In 2011, I started Geekystuff.co. It was always meant to be an accompanying blog to this one, my personal blog. Geekystuff was intended to be a place for all things geeky, from computers, sci-fi, gadgets or the internet, to genres like music, film and TV. My hope was that at some point I would stumble upon the readers geeky interest and we could geek out together.
I also used this blog to learn about affiliate marketing, and to my surprise made a few £££s along the way.
However, early in 2012, Michaelisherwood.com had unexpectedly become relatively popular with thousands of views a month due to a particular post. Due to this upsurge in traffic, I had to spend lots of time updating that particular post and it became almost a full-time job. Something had to give and it was Geekystuff.co, as it was always meant to be a side project anyway.
The parking of Geekystuff was always meant to be short-term thing, but work commitments and to be honest my laziness got in the way.
Anyway, after a decade I tried to re-launch Geekystuff.co, unfortunately to limited success. After a decade away any regular readers I had were well gone, and the geeky blogging sphere had exploded, with every Padawan and their Master having a blog.
Also the way I like to blog in a conversational, rambling and hopefully humorous style doesn’t attract readers like it used to back in the old days before Facebook & X became huge. People now can just follow their favourite geeky blogger on X or wherever.
So, I’ve made the decision to move the Geekystuff.co posts over here, and archiving them on MichaelIsherwood.com. There are two main reasons driving this decision:
Firstly, it’s a matter of cost. While not a King’s ransom, Geekystuff has annual running costs. Since I’m not actively posting and visitors are low, it’s simply not cost-effective to keep it running.
Secondly, it’s about consolidating ‘Brand Mike’. Michaelisherwood.com is my personal blog, a place where I can write about anything I want, no filter, no pretence, just Me. Well, surprise, surprise, geekystuff.co posts fit that definition perfectly. Bang on brand.
The Geekystuff.co posts will live out their lives now as a tag under the category Tech & Geekery, on this blog.
My name’s Mike and I’m a Geek. Geekystuff.co is coming home.
Take care,
Mike
Who Wrote This?
Note: 100% me. Geekystuff.co was 100% me too. RIP old geeky friend.
