My Google search history is a window into my mind. It shows how random my thought processes are, how my brain has thought farts.
Here are 5 random things I Googled this week.
1, Why dolphins like to follow boats and surf the bow waves
One of my guilty secrets is that I like to watch yachting videos on YouTube, people sailing single handed across the Atlantic or Pacific oceans, or yacht tours, I’m all over it. If I was filthy rich I’d definitely have a yacht. Nothing too extravagant, 50 meters tops. Anyway, I noticed on numerous videos dolphins swimming/surfing the bow waves of yachts. I assumed it was due to efficiency, the yacht bow cutting through the water enabling the dolphins to conserve energy. (Basically, dolphins are the freeloads of the ocean, second only to barnacles.) To my surprise, after my Google search I learnt that dolphins are also the toddlers of the ocean, surfing the yacht’s bow for efficiency granted, but also for fun. They are basically having a laugh with their mates.
2, Geekgasm
In my recent post about my favourite photos from my camera roll, I wrote about how I had a geekgasm when I was in Akihabara, Tokyo. Obviously, I thought i was a geeky genius coming up with the word geekgasm. After a quick google search my bubble was burst. It was already a word. Of course, I’m devastated that it wasn’t an original word, however I’m taking the definition.
Geekgasm (noun): When a geek is overstimulated, overexcited to the point they just smile and giggle to themselves. A feeling of intense excitement or pleasure over something geeky.
3, Whatever happened to the London Boys.
On X, what happened to the London Boys was trending, apparently they had been on a repeat of Top of the Pops, the BBC’s, now cancelled, long running music programme. While not a fan of the London Boys, I was aware of them and after clicking on the trend, people were saying how sad it was and not to Google what happened. Obviously, I didn’t heed the warning, and Googled Whatever happened to the London Boys. I thought there was a car crash killing one of the dance-pop duo, but the crash was more tragic than I realised with both London Boys, Edem Ephraim and Dennis Fuller dying alongside Edem’s wife. Leaving Edem and his wife’s 3 year old son orphaned, and Dennis’s 10 year old daughter fatherless. Heartbreaking!
4, Airbus on board ship
As I mentioned earlier, I like watching yachting videos on YouTube. In the video I was watching the guy was sailing single handed from Bermuda to Spain. While completing this epic crossing the sailor pointed out a massive ship with “Airbus On Board” written on the side. Of course, I know of Airbus as the airplane manufacturer, but I wondered if they had a side-line in building ships. Apparently not, the ship was in fact carrying parts to the USA for assembly. This surprised me a little as I thought Airbus was a Europe centric company.
5, Byram Township
I often check the analytics of this blog, and like to see where visitors are from. I often find myself Googling places I don’t recognise. Byram Township, USA jumped out at me, as I’d never heard of the place and Township sounds like a place in South Africa I’m meant to avoid as a tourist.
So, Byram Township is a small township in the state of New Jersey, with a population of only 8,028. Whoever visited read my Alternative Phrases To Use At Work Instead of Swearing post.
One of my big ideas if I was successful or maybe just unemployed would be to go to US and visit some of these obscure places people have visited my blog from.
Anyway that’s 5 random things I Googled this week. Nothing too strange, but certainly random.
Take care,
Mike
